8 Tips to Make a Positive Work Environment

A positive work environment motivates you the best, fills you with the enthusiasm and excitement to go to your office in the morning and put in your more than 100% of results. Our maximum part of the active hours is spent at our work place. It’s a pleasing experience to work in such a supportive culture where your work becomes stressless, full of positivity and enjoyment. A positive work environment is not only important for our productivity, but also for our physical, mental and emotional health. The better we feel at work, the more likely we will take pride in our job activities and feel belonging to the organization. Thus the honest and efficient efforts will come up, which not only will be beneficial for us, enriching our productivity, but as well for the organization.

Let us now have a look at some major tips to create a positive working environment for us.

1. Take a right job

The first thing required in creating a positive work environment, is to secure a position that suits you and your skills. Identify your right position on the basis of the following questions:

  • What are your set of key skills;
  • What type of work you want to do,
  • What kind of role and job responsibilities you would like to have,
  • Where do you see yourself in five years, and
  • What kind of environment would motivate and grow you.

On the basis of the answers to these questions you can then recognize the opportunity that matches your criteria.

2. Keep a positive attitude

An attitude of positivity and approachability takes you far. Collaborate with your colleagues, and be available to all and willing to help. Walk around with a smile, and make eye contact with those you pass by. Be polite and humble. Talk with humility, encouragement, kindness, and respect. Ask questions and be informed, before making assumptions. Include the quality of “is fun to work with”. Listen to others with interest and patience. Stay away from complain(s), rumors or gossip.

3. Take responsibility for your career

You must take responsibility for your career growth. It’s in your hands to create yourself an environment that motivates you and in which you can learn and grow. If you stay long at a “dead-end” career path it will become hard for you to stay positive. When you feel yourself stagnating in your career, approach your manager and talk to him on your career plans and ask for assistance; and it does not works out, it’s time to look for outside opportunities.

4. Communication with Your Boss

Meet with your manager regularly to and discuss the work, to ensure you are on the right track for meeting your targets and do what is expected of you. Your manager always will not come to you, it’s thus your responsibility to approach and reach out to him. Keep your manager informed about the status of the activities you are performing shows that you are credible, trustworthy, interested in the business, and committed to your job. You may even consider sending a weekly status report indicating what you are working on, what you have completed, and what you have pending.

5.  Be Transparent and Adhere to the Company Rules

Don’t filter information or communication to suit your purpose. Always pass on the communication or information available with you (in complete form), to the concerned person. Maintain transparency in your work and processes. Take onus of informing others of your decisions and their consequences. Share your achievements and invite feedback and suggestions. This way you not only will win trust and respect, gain good advices and also will be appreciated and accepted by all.

6. Believe and follow the Principle of “Hope, Trust & Pleasure”

Each of the above term is very important part of your work culture and thus plays a vital role thereby. Hope for growth and good opportunities for yourself, keeps you doing well and trying hard. Trust in your boss and colleagues enables you bong and gel with them and thus perform as a team. Pleasure in your work keeps you motivated from inside.   

7. Look out for Good Opportunities

 You growth is as important for you as is for your company as a stagnating employee is of least use and interest to the employers. So be conscious towards your career and look out for the good opportunities and volunteer for them, thereby enhancing your skills.

8. Be social

Interact with your colleagues in a non-working way. Join a company team or group. Bring a few games in that you can play over your lunch break. Celebrate birthdays, and other special events. Cultivate working friendships. Organize a competitive sporting event. Organize a departmental pot luck lunch. There are so many things that you can do to connect with others while at work.
